If this wine was a person they’d probably convince you to go to karaoke at 2am but they would also shout you brunch the next day.
Jousset Exilé Blanc • Domaine Jousset Chenin • Blanc -Colombard • 2019 • Made from organic grapes that Lise and Bertrand source from the Loire Valley, this vintage of the Exilé blanc is the result of a literal backpacking/grape harvesting mission that Bertrand went on in 2016 when the vines in the Loire were hit hard by frost and hail in the summer. Half Chenin Blanc from their vineyards in Touraine and half Colombard hey found on that trip. Extreme minerally characters, freshness, tartness, citrus, green apple and oyster shell. Some light, cloying slip to texture but the finish is all tang and salt water. It’s fragrant too, but pretty mellow in that regard, lemon balm, more ocean air, a bit of almond. Oh, there’s nutty savouriness in flavours too. It’s outrageously delicious.

BKonpira Maru • Admiral Ackbar (Semillon) • Kilmore, VIC, AUS • 2021• It’s a trap!… for fantastic drinking. A fresh and clean textural Semillon with a whole lotta mouth-watering acidity. Partial malolactic fermentation and three weeks on skins has added texture and a little tannin kick on the finish, and because it’s un-fined and unfiltered it is almost in the realm of ‘cloudy goodness’!
